  Guzzling Jelly With

  Giant Gorbelly

Guzzling Jelly with Giant Gorbelly features a few ‘greatest hits’ poems that are firm favourites with readers – ‘Leisure Centre, Pleasure Centre’ and ‘Dazzledance’ among them.

In the main the book features a brand new selection of poems that will be instantly appreciated by both children and adults. The book contains poems about cuddly animals, ferocious teddies, castles being built in the woods, school photos, stick insects in the museum and a 21st century version of ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’.

The book also features several poems about two new characters, Captain Angel and Giant Gorbelly (and his son Gorbelly Button!)

Guzzling Jelly with Giant Gorbelly was the Poetry Book Society’s summer choice for children.

  Scottish Poems

“John Rice takes us on an exhilarating whistle-stop tour, the poets of his choice a refreshing and stimulating mix of the familiar and the unexpected. The vitality and diversity of their voices reflects that of the land they live in, and whet the appetite for more. Folk-rhymes and wise humour rub shoulders with expressions of tenderness, evocations of the joys and fears of childhood, and insights into our darker nature. This anthology should give great pleasure, not least as a reminder – to young and old alike – of that terrain where poetry and storytelling enthrallingly merge.”

 - Stewart Conn, poet and playwright .

“Scottish Poems is a very user-friendly collection that will stimulate linguistic imagination and develop new insights into poetry.”

- The Bookseller, 15 June 2001

“Outstanding…a book of richness and variety to make readers ponder as well as smile."

- Glasgow Herald, 21 July 2001

“Every family should own this…a treasure trove of classic and contemporary poetry that proves poetry is for everyone."

 - Scottish Book Trust

“A superbly selected anthology. Secondary schools north of Carlisle should rejoice in it, south too. Lively throughout, interest on every page.”
